History & philosophy

A travelling salesman...
Pfleger great-grandfather, a travelling salesman, buys the estate from the Bishops of Brixen. The Pfleger family lives there until 1968 until everyday life with 10 children becomes too much on such an estate.
Moving to the new family home...
The family moves to the new detached family home, formerly called „Mairjörgerhof“. This move includes the small corner shop. At that point in time summer visitors can already book rooms.
Son Rudolf takes over the grocery store and his parents‘ home. With the opening of a snack bar a first step into the world of gastronomy is made. The „Pflegerstube“ turns into a much loved meeting point for the growing number of holiday makers as well as for the locals.
Founding of a family
Rudolf gets married to Magdalena. Together they make many plans for the future.
Birth of Lisa
Lisa, their first child is born. What a joyous event.
Renovation and extension
In the course of the following years private rooms are redecorated, the restaurant is expanded and many more plans are made.
Thomas is born
Son Thomas is born – finally there are two.
"Gasthof Pfleger" is born. 14 new luxurious rooms are created.
Carolina is born
"A third one would be nice" - daughter Carolina is born.
Extension to a hotel...
Guests feel at home at "Pfleger". The time is right to turn the pub into a hotel. This is followed by the creation of more guest rooms, another kitchen, a seminar room, a new reception area with a small bar, a new restaurant, as well as the "Vitalstudio" with a Roman steambath, sauna and an area for relaxation.
A new cuisine philosophy...
From now on the cuisine becomes the new centre of attention. A new cuisine philosophy is created - two worlds under one roof. On the one hand you find the traditional Tyrolean pub cuisine, on the other a refined, exclusive gourmet cuisine with its focus on freshness and regional products.
Award from "Gault Millau"
We finally reap the rewards for our work. For the first time "Pfleger" receives 1 star for its kitchen by "Gault Millau". Other awards from "à la card" and "Fallstaff" follow over the next few years.
Many things are created in the following years:
- the "Pfleger-Refugium" - a spa area with many offers that reflect the elements
- the garden and
- the terrace - further retreats with breathtaking views.
And the planning is continued.
As time goes by, children turn into young adults. After completing their training our children become part of the team.
Family Mascher along with their staff run a hotel high up on the sunny plateau of the Pustertal, a bit off the centre but in the middle of the countryside so that the guests can enjoy themselves.
